Virginia Tech’s Chemistry Club, an undergraduate chapter of the American Chemical Society, takes second place in membership contest

This past December, Virginia Tech’s Chemistry Club, an affiliate of the American Chemical Society (ACS), took second place in a competition to grow their member count. The competition successfully encouraged local groups and chapters to strengthen their chemistry community by awarding cash prizes and discounting memberships for the duration of the competition.

ACS challenged all student groups to have the highest growth percentage among chapters and groups from across the country. In taking second place, the Chemistry Club won $1,500 to fund their group.

Virginia Tech’s Chemistry Club successfully recruited impressive numbers, growing their ACS membership count within the group by roughly 30 students during Fall Semester 2024. The majority of these new students came from the incoming freshman class, and after going inactive last year, the group re-activated their affiliation with ACS.
