John Matson was promoted to the rank of full professor in June 2021. Matson earned his Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology under the tutelage of the late Nobel laureate Robert H. Grubbs and went on to a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University’s Institute for BioNanotechnology in Medicine. He joined the faculty in 2012 as an assistant professor. Since 2020, he has also served as the Dr. A. C. Lilly, Jr. Faculty Fellow of Nanoscience.
The Matson group’s research can be categorized as organic, macromolecular, and supramolecular chemistry and is focused on therapeutic H2S delivery, bottlebrush polymers, new renewable and degradable polymers, and self-assembling peptide-based materials. To date, he and his group have published over 75 papers in journals with many features and highlights.
