The Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in any area of chemistry, including analytical, biological, environmental, inorganic, materials, organic, physical, polymer, and theoretical/computational chemistry, with an intended start date of fall 2019. The position is expected to be filled at the assistant professor level, but applicants at all ranks will be considered.

The successful candidate must establish an internationally recognized research program and be an effective teacher in graduate and undergraduate courses. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is required; the degree is required at the time of appointment. Application materials include a curriculum vita, a description of research plans (not to exceed five pages), a statement of teaching philosophy and plans (not to exceed two pages), and three letters of recommendation.

Open Rank - Synthetic Polymer Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track or tenured faculty position in synthetic polymer chemistry with an intended start date of fall 2019. Candidates with an emphasis in any area of modern polymer synthesis are encouraged to apply. Appointments will be made at a rank commensurate with the appointee’s experience.

The successful candidate must establish or have established an independent, innovative, and internationally recognized research program and be an effective teacher in graduate and undergraduate courses. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is required; the degree is required at the time of appointment. For more senior applicants, an outstanding reputation in the field is a prime requirement. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is required; the degree is required at the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage in transdisciplinary research, curriculum, and/or outreach initiatives with other university faculty working in the Economical and Sustainable Materials Strategic Growth Area. Work in this area embraces a focus on transdisciplinary approaches to addressing critical scientific materials challenges related to health, energy, environment, and resilient infrastructure.

Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary teaching and/or research in areas that align with Virginia Tech’s university-wide, multi-disciplinary focus on economical and sustainable materials is preferred.
