(November 5, 2019) This weekend, undergraduate Scott McGuigan won the Virginia Academy of Science Undergraduate Research Grant, one of two Virginia Tech Chemistry students to win. The grant is awarded annually to the best student posters at the Fall Undergraduate Research Meeting; this year the meeting was held at Christopher Newport University.

A chemistry senior working in Prof. Feng Lin’s lab, Scott has been working with graduate student Anyang Hu on the intercalation chemistry of dynamic glass. Scott’s excellent research work has not gone unnoticed; he was recently selected as a poster winner at the Department’s Spring Undergraduate Research Symposium this past May. The funding from this grant will be used towards materials, supplies, and characterization for his project. Prof. Lin wrote “I am looking forward to another exciting year of research from Scott and Anyang.” Congratulations, Scott!
