(February 26, 2018) A paper from Prof. Joe Merola's group has been featured on the front cover of the February 26th issue of Organometalics. The paper, titled "Synthesis, Characterization, and Antimicrobial Activity of RhIII and IrIII β-Diketonato Piano-Stool Compounds", describes the synthesis of a library of rhodium(III) and iridium(III) complexes with substituted tetramethylcyclopentadienyl (Cp*R) and beta-diketonato ligands. Several of these complexes were found to have good antimicrobial activity against Mycobacterium smegmatis. The issue's cover artwork, featured at left, created by Chrissy DuChane, a 5th year graduate student in the Merola Lab, highlights the modular nature of the synthetic process by comparing it to an assembly line in a factory.
