(November 30, 2018) Alumnus, Dr. Ryan Fortenberry (Crawford Ph.D. '12), Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry at The University of Mississippi, has recently completed a book titled, "Complete Science Communication: A Guide to Connecting with Scientists, Journalists and the Public", published by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Science communication is a rapidly emerging field that provides researchers with the framework needed to effectively share research and knowledge with not only technical audiences, but also the wider general public. Dr. Fortenberry's book offers a comprehensive look at the main aspects of scientific communication that connect scientists with a variety of audiences, from writing for peer-reviewed journals to public relations. The main thesis is that scientists need to write like journalists and talk like cavemen.
