(August 7, 2020) Congratulations to assistant professor Feng Lin, graduate student Zhengrui Xu, and the Lin group on their newest paper published in Advanced Materials. The paper, titled “Charging Reactions Promoted by Geometrically Necessary Dislocations in Battery Materials Revealed by In Situ Single‐Particle Synchrotron Measurements”, demonstrates that dislocations may facilitate redox reactions in layered oxide battery materials at low states of charge. The discovery lays the groundwork for further research into the precise control of crystallographic defects and their distribution and has implications in future battery energy density and stability research.
