The Virginia Tech Department of Chemistry consists of approximately 300 undergraduate majors, 150 graduate students, 30 post-doctoral associates and research scientists, 33 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 8 instructors, and 40 staff members. The size and quality of our department allows us to provide students with opportunities not found at smaller institutions. Despite the large numbers, each student is important and receives the individual attention he or she needs, from both professors and advisors.

The chemistry undergraduate degree program at Virginia Tech offers students a comprehensive and thorough foundational training in chemical principles and lab techniques as well as introductions to more advanced concepts. An undergraduate degree in chemistry prepares students for a variety of career fields in industry, academia, government, and other fields.

The graduate program at Virginia Tech builds interdisciplinary scholars equipped to tackle problems with scientific solutions. Graduates go on to lead successful careers in industry, research and academia.
