(July 31, 2018) Last Friday, several of the female graduate students from the Moore Group, along with Dr. Shami Arachchige, put on a Chemistry Show for the Science Museum of Western Virginia's Science Girls summer camp. Through demonstrations and hands-on activities, the campers experienced fireworks, color changing reactions, acids, bases, super absorbent polymer chemistry, and different states of matter (solid, gel, liquid, gas). The camp, which was open to kindergarten to fifth grade girls, provided an opportunity for young women to engage in STEM learning. The Chemistry Show also allowed Virginia Tech chemistry graduate students to participate in community outreach and teach the next generation of aspiring scientists about chemistry.
